How to choose a cotton kaftan
Kaftans look interchangeable on a rail and behave very differently once worn. Three choices decide how much you actually wear one.
Weight
Light cotton moves in heat and dries after a swim. Anything heavier becomes a robe, and a robe stays in the suitcase.
Sleeve
A half sleeve covers shoulders through the strongest part of the afternoon while still letting air across the arm. Full sleeves are cooler in dry heat than most people expect, and warmer than most want in humidity.
Neckline
A V opens the chest and lengthens the line; a round neck reads more relaxed. Neither is dressier by default — belting decides that. More on wearing one in how to style a kaftan, and see cotton kaftans and resort wear.
