About Qrubiss
Qrubiss is a small-batch label making hand block printed, quilted cotton bags, travel pouches and kaftans. The cloth is printed by hand in Jaipur, Rajasthan, using carved wooden blocks and one pass per colour, then washed, dried and stitched into finished pieces. Orders are shipped to customers in the United States and internationally.
Short boilerplate (copy and paste): "Qrubiss is a Jaipur-based label making hand block printed, quilted cotton bags, travel pouches and kaftans. Each piece is printed by hand using carved wooden blocks, so no two are identical."
Brand facts
The craft, in one paragraph
Block printing begins with a design carved in relief into a teak block — one block per colour. The printer dips the block, aligns it by eye against the previous impression and strikes it with the heel of the hand. A metre of cloth can take hundreds of impressions. Because alignment is judged by eye rather than by machine, the register shifts slightly across a length of fabric; that shift is how you tell hand printing from a screen print. Our atelier page covers the process in more detail, and the Journal carries longer guides on printing, care and travel packing.
