Colour notes: indigo and madder

Indigo oxidises in air — cloth leaves the vat green and turns blue as you watch. Madder builds from rust to deep red over repeated dips.

Living colour

Both dyes shift gently with light and washing. A two-year-old Qrubiss piece does not look worn; it looks settled.
